Tag 10 All Day to Soak up Salzburg
The drizzle continued this morning. We set out early to see Mirabel Gardens before the crowds started to arrive. We ventured to the troll garden and found our "spirit" troll and took a photo with it.
After our quick trip out we headed back to the hotel to meet up with the group and our local guide who walked us through Salzburg. Our first stop was another part of Mirabel Gardens. We learned that these gardens were the first place a young, 7 year old Mozart played. After walking across the bridge we merged onto the Getreidegasse, the main historic shopping road. This is a very fun road. The |

signs above each shop have specific guidelines they must keep to in order to maintain the traditions. During our tour we also went to the beautiful Salzburg Cathedral and to the Residenzplatz, home of the horse fountain as seen in The Sound of Music.
When set loose on our own we ventured out to discover the Salzburg Abbey. It took a couple tries to get us in the right area, but eventually we found it. The view from the back of the Abbey was stunning. As this is a working Abbey much of it cannot be seen from the outside. However we did go into the St. John's Chapel. This is where the real Maria and Captain Von Trapp were married. We also saw the gate where the |
Von Trapp children came looking for Maria in the movie.
After this Mom and I went up to the Hohensalzburg Fortress to look around and see the view of Salzburg. It was very beautiful! We did not spend a lot of time up at the fortress. We wanted to be sure to make it down the hill to see St. Peter's Cemetery. This beautiful cemetery inspired the Hollywood version we saw in the Sound of Music film where the Von Trapp family are hiding from the Nazi soldiers. It was another eventful day, but a fun one!
