Alsace Region of France
To get to France we flew out of Vienna to Basel, Switzerland. When preparing to leave the airport we had to be aware of which exit to take as one leads to Switzerland, the other to France. From here we took a Flix Bus to Colmar. We dearly missed our comfortable Rick Steves tour bus as we squeezed into a couple of empty seats. Mom's seat was special as it would slide out into the aisle with every turn, then slide back in. We were so thankful when we finally reached Colmar, France!
Colmar is magical! This town looks as if it jumped right out of Beauty and the Beast! We had an amazing time exploring the streets and taking in the views. I was so impressed with all the flowers in bloom despite it being well into fall. The town is so adorable with the various decorations and flower boxes upon the buildings. It was everything I could have hoped for!
As the town was so charming we started the second day in town by dressing up in our dirndl dresses and walked into town for some photos. We became instant celebrities with a group of Swedish tourists, as well as an Italian tour group. |

On one of our days in the Alsace region we booked a one day tour that took us to four towns in this beautiful French countryside. The Alsace region sits on the border of the Black Forest. The architecture and other details in the streets were very reminiscent of Germany and Austria. Each of these towns were very endearing! We could have easily spent a day in each town to properly explore them. These other towns, in the order visited are: Kaysersberg, Riquewihr, Ribeauville, and Equisheim. Each was special and had its own flair. All of them were adorable and surrounded by vineyards that were changing color for the season. It was stunning.
